Kirk won a few awards for the Colorado High School Press Association in his two years of doing KLHS.
2nd Place, Sports Season Review
Junior year, Kirk took 2nd place for season review video for a basketball video he edited. He has the raw tape at home, and is still trying to get it online. We will keep you updated on when this happens.
1st Place, News Story
Towards the end of junior year, Sergeant Isaac Palomarez was killed in the war on terror in Afghanistan. Sgt. Palomarez was a graduate of Loveland High School.
The class teacher asked Kirk and two others, Nick Turner and Luke Connour to cover this, and to focus the story on the ROTC group that performed a special routine as he passed by.
Nick and Luke were unable to get out of class, but Kirk was on open block and able to get the procession as it passed. They provided a couple voiceovers, but Kirk did the interview, wrote the script, and edited the whole thing.
1st Place, Sports Recap
Kirk and his “KLHS Sports” partner Ryan Carnes took 1st place senior year for the KLHS Sports episode they did February 27, 2009.
Included in this episode is boys and girls basketball highlights, the beginning of spring sports, and an interview with Connor Medberry, the 5A state wrestling champion.
1st Place, Season Sports Review
Junior year Kirk took 2nd, so to improve on that and not let it happen again Kirk spent the entire 2008-2009 school year working on a tribute to all the school’s sports teams, and almost all sports were represented here (sorry, golf!). The video is set to “It’s Not My Time” by 3 Doors Down. 95% of the clips were shot by Kirk and the entire thing was edited by Kirk.
