Kirk was inducted into the Society of Collegiate Journalists during his freshman year in spring of 2010. Despite being in the society for all four years, only one piece Kirk did was entered into the SCJ Awards, and that was at the halfway point of his senior year.

Kirk received word in the spring of 2013 that his recap of the Hastings College vs Morningside women’s soccer conference semifinal match had won 1st place for Television Sports Package.
